Growing Friends-Wisconsin Rapids Community Gardens

Growing Friends Wisconsin Rapids Community Gardens began in 2013 and had a very successful first year. There are now 75 garden plots at this site including in-ground plots, raised beds, as well as handicap accessible beds.  Plots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Wood County Master Gardeners maintain 7 plots for demonstration and educational gardens, and donate the produce to area food pantries.  Riverview Hospital Association graciously granted the use of a piece of land located on the corner of Hill Street and Spruce Avenue.  The gardens are located on the southeast corner of this intersection.

Here is a map of the location of the garden site:  Garden location

There are a couple of ways interested individuals can become involved:

  • Be a gardener:  garden plots are available to rent for $10 for the growing season.  Limited free plots are available (contact us for more details)
  • Be a volunteer:  it takes a lot of volunteers to run a community garden and there are plenty of opportunities to help whether you want to get your hands dirty, plan educational events, help those that are gardening, donate food to food pantries, or with some of the administrative duties
  • Be a sponsor:  we also have a list of items we could use whether you would like to donate the item or support the gardens monetarily

Thank You to our Partners, Supporters, and Volunteers!

These gardens would not be possible without the support of the community and other community gardens that have come before us.
